“So are you going to tell me what’s going on between you and Sean?” I nudge her leg playfully as we lay on the couch, later in the evening, watching reruns of Friends and drinking wine.

The stalkerazzi finally took the hint that I wasn’t going to indulge their questions and left around 7pm.

Rolling her eyes dramatically, Tori brings her glass to her lips and takes a sip. “There’s nothing going on, Ash. It’s just harmless flirting.”

I raise a dubious brow and smirk. “Didn’t look harmless to me.”

My phone lights up on the coffee table as Rome’s name pops up on the screen.

An amused grin spreads across her cheeks. “Someone missing you?”

Blushing, I bite my bottom lip and open his text.

Rome: Missing you. Hate how empty my place feels without you.

Me: Lol. I was only there for a night.

Rome: Best night of my life.

My blush deepens as I type out a reply.

Me: Then you’ve lived a very sheltered life.

His text is instantaneous.

Rome: Not sheltered, baby. Just empty.

Rome: When can I see you again?

“Don’t evade the question; I know what you’re doing.” I say, eyeing Tori suspiciously.

Me: Soon.

Me: Btw, I miss you too.

“I’m not doing anything. He wants something I can’t give him.” Draining her glass, she stands up. “Anyway, I’m going to head home. Leave you to sext with your bae.” She winks.

Rome: Fuck. I need you so fucking bad.

“We’re not sexting and he’s not my bae,” I argue weakly.

“Yet,” Tori adds on, grinning knowingly.

“Shut up,” I chuckle, getting up to walk her out. “You sure you should be driving? You’ve been drinking.”

Waving her hand dismissively, she rolls her eyes again. “I’ll be fine. I only had one.” Opening the door, I walk her to her car. “Just remember what I said, okay? Make him work for you.”

“I will, I promise.”

Giving her a kiss on the cheek, Tori climbs into her car and reverses out of my driveway.

I’m just about to turn and head inside when I hear a rustling in the bushes beside my house.

What the hell?

My head snaps toward the sound and I furrow my brows. A sense of foreboding steals over me as I check my surroundings suspiciously.

It's pitch black outside, and the only light visible are the ones from my house. There’s barely any breeze tonight, in fact, it’s eerily calm.

“Hello?” I call out into the night. “Is anyone there?”

Silence.

Now majorly creeped out, I cautiously inch down my porch steps, my heart starting to race. Every instinct in my body is telling me to run back inside, but like an idiot who’s determined to get herself killed, I ignore it.

As I reach my driveway, I hear the foliage move again and instantly take a step back in alarm.

What the fuck...

Nervously, I spin around and rush back inside, securing every lock on my door.

Pulling out my phone, my fingers tremble as I type out a text to Rome.

Me: I think I’m being watched.
